8-)is a design collaboration founded by Carlos Tolosa Tejedor and Kilian Schellenberger, who first crossed paths while working at Herzog & de Meuron. Their partnership quickly evolved from designing small-scale objects to tackling competition entries and building projects.
Their work is defined by a dynamic dialogue that expands architectural design into adjacent fields, fostered by frequent collaborations with a diverse array of artists, architects, and designers. They believe that personal connections and ongoing conversations are essential strategies for developing comprehensive and sustainable proposals.
Themes such as identity, time, and reuse emerged from their early discussions and influences, evolving into core principles that inform their work today. The ambition of their practice is to create buildings that connect to societal needs and economic contexts as well as contemporary craft and manufacturing processes.
Kilian (born in Würzburg), holds a Master degree in architecture from the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio and a Bachelor of Arts from the TU Munich and the National University of Singapore. He had previously studied Art History and Museology at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg.
